Escaping colours and madness is not an option on Holi, but maintaining your skin and hair care regimen definitely is! We often get so carried away in the celebration that we cross the line between fun and wildness. And considering this fun-filled festival only comes once a year, we don't want to restrict ourselves either.

So if you want to keep the beautiful Holi colours from leaving horrible effects on you, go for these 5 beauty care tips and carelessly indulge in the craziness!

1. Skincare
Prolonged exposure to sun with chemical colours on your skin can have detrimental effects. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen all over your skin and use an oil based moisturizer or a mixture of olive, coconut and castor oil to keep the colour from harming your skin. Keep a bottle of aloe-vera gel or rosewater handy in case something causes skin irritation

2. Protect Eyes and Lips
Give your contact lenses a complete rest! Wear sunglasses and wash your eyes immediately if the colours enter your eyes. Lips also tend to chap because of the colours on them. Keep them moisturized by washing them and applying lip balm at regular intervals.

3. No Last Minute Salon Trip
We understand you want to look stunning for that grand Holi party and, well, after that. But, waxing, shaving, threading, facial, manicure or any such salon treatment MUST be avoided a week prior to and post Holi. They make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. However, you must apply the darkest shade of nail-paint before the festival to protect your nails.

4. Hair-Care
Holi colours make your hair dry, frizzy and the effects last longer than you'd imagined. Do not leave your hair open. There are other ways of looking stunning on the day of the festival than letting your locks loose. Go for a fish-tail braid it or wrap it up in a top knot, if you don't want to wear a cap. Thoroughly apply oil all over your hair and scalp.

5. After-Care
We all dread the hours we spend on getting rid of Holi colours and often end up being harsh on our skin. Apply sesame oil all over your skin, and then go for a mixture of natural honey, turmeric and curd to gently scrub the colour off your skin. Apply a mixture of apple and cucumber juice later. This will clean your skin properly as well as help you to gain back the natural luster.
