5 Reasons Why Delhi Is The Place To Be In September

In the age of information and entertainment overload there is really no need for one to seek elements of leisure; they are easily and readily available to us and that has made us complacent in ways we look at them. But every now and then there is a phase of renaissance that aims at changing a familiar narrative, and if you ask us Delhi in September is exactly that. With absolutely game-changing avenues of entertainment and recreation! Especially for those of you who love theatre, musicals, and Broadway!

1. Swan Lake
For the first time the original is coming to India, and we literally couldn't be more excited! Tchaikovsky's ballet, which redefined dramatic narration, is best known to have inspired the Oscar favourite Black Swan; however it is best watched when holding its own ground and that is what you get when the Russian Royal Ballet gets it to Delhi, in collaboration with Navrasa Duende, this month! Don't forget to log onto any show-listing website and get your tickets now! It runs from 22nd of September to the 24th of September at Siri Fort Auditorium.

2. Mughal E Azam
We won't lie to you; but we are always skeptical about reproductions of classics. Except this time we can't possibly wait this rendition which comes alive in the form of a musical. With lavishly elaborate costumes designed by Manish Malhotra, and directed by the master playwright -Feroz Abbas Khan, there is no way we can even think of missing it! It's happening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from the 7th of September to the 16th.

3. The Shakuntala Project
Imagine something as predictable as a factory being home to something so unbelievably ingenuous that it gives an entire new dimension to creativity. Well that is exactly what the Black Box Okhla aims at achieving. Founded by director Nikhil Mehta, this theater space has come alive within the walls of a factory, and their first development is The Shakuntala Project. This is a recreation of Kalidasa's Shakuntala being lived out by a man and a woman confined within the four walls of their apartment, which we feel will remind cinephiles of the film Critical Mass. You can view it from the 8th to the 17th of September!

4. Oddbird Theater and Foundation
Speaking of spaces of theater coming out of the familiarity they are always known about; the Oddbird Theater is a space in Chattarpur which can be your go-to for artistic expression! With new plays being offered in quick succession, this space is a haven for the creative juices to flow of those artists who are itching to tell their stories. From narrating a relationship between two men to discussions about Dostoevsky -this is really the place you can't miss out on.

5. Pyaasa
And finally this masterpiece comes alive, because every generation should witness the genius of Guru Dutt. Being screened on the 13th of September at DT Cinemas in DLF Saket it will be a movie experience like none before, especially in today's times of over the top cinema. We suggest you make some time out for this, because watching the intense and intricate relationship between Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rahman is something that will haunt you for a while!
